Q: Which languages do you work with?

A: I do translation and interpretation between English and Chinese (Mandarin or Simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese).

Q: Why should I use your service and not a translation agency?

A: I personally provide the service at affordable prices. You deal directly with me from start to the end of my service without an expensive middleman.

Q: How do I know that you will provide me with a high-quality translation?

A: I am a native Chinese (Mandarin) speaker. I have been doing freelance translation and interpretation since 1992. I worked for six years as an EST (English for Science and Technology) teacher in a university when I was in China. Now I am working as a professional IT staff (Oracle database administrator) for a Canadian provincial government. With my combined with my living and working experience in China and Canada, you can be assured that my service will be of an high quality.

Q: How do you treat long-term business partners?

A: I can provide discounted rates by negotiation.

Q: What is website localization?

A: My website localization service is for translating an English website to Chinese so that the information on the website can be understood by Chinese-speaking audience. I have expertise building websites and programming with multiple computer languages. So please be assured that the style of the website remains unchanged, the content remains faithful and the loading speed is not slowed.

Q: Do you do proofreading?

A: Proofreading is included in the cost as it is part of the translation process. If you have had English to Chinese translation carried out by another agency I would be happy to review and correct the document. Please see the "Rates page.

Q: Can you provide an urgent translation?

A: Give me a call and I will examine the requirements and give you an honest answer. There is an additional 15% charge for rush services.

Q: Do you use computer software to translate documents?

A: No. There are no computer software packages that outperform human translation. I do use translation tools and the Internet to help me in the translation process.

Q: How long will it take for you to finish my translation?

A: Translation speed depends on the length and technical complexity of the source document, and on the deadline that you require it by. I usually translate about 2000 words per day and 250-300 words per hour. I am always prepared to work longs hours if required.

Q: Do I pay before or after completion of my translation?

A: Payment should be made within 30 days of invoice. After 30 days surcharges are applicable.

Q: What if I am unhappy with the translation?

A: This is rare, but please do get in touch and I will make any necessary corrections at no extra charge.
